Lovejoy defeated nationally ranked Melissa with a convincing 8-1 win

The Lovejoy softball team completed the first half of its 13-5A schedule on Thursday with a perfect 6-0 record. The latest of those wins came in stunning fashion, blasting Melissa for an 8-1 victory to take sole possession of first place in the district. The Lady Cardinals came into the contest sporting a 23-1-1 record and ranked No. 14 in the country by MaxPreps. But by the time Melissa accrued its lone run of the ballgame, Lovejoy had already amassed an 8-0 lead.
