South wins season opener over Pius

WAUKESHA — Tyler Conger recorded an eight-out save to preserve a season-opening 3-2 nonconference baseball victory for Waukesha South over Pius from Frame Park on Thursday. Conger entered the game with runners on second and third and one out with the Blackshirts clinging to a one-run lead. But he struck out the next two hitters as South would hold on from there. Bryten Staab was the winning pitcher for the Blackshirts, lasting 4 1/3 innings. Pius took a 1-0 lead early before South scored three in the fourth to take the lead for good.
