Kellie Harper fired: 5 Tennessee WBB head coach candidates
Kara Lawson
If Tennessee wanted to go with a Pat Summitt disciple, the best option could be Lawson. The former Lady Vols point guard has excelled as the head coach of the Duke Blue Devils, going 68-33 over four seasons with back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances including a trip to the Sweet 16 this season.
Despite Lawson’s success at Duke, there are a few concerns. The first is that she has never led the Blue Devils to a conference title, which may be worrisome for a program looking to keep its NCAA Tournament appearance streak alive. Another is that Duke has been Lawson’s lone head coaching position so she’s rather green. If the Tennessee administration is confident in the young head coach and wants to stay within the Summitt coaching tree, Lawson would be the best move.
