BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The LIU softball team welcomed Rutgers to Brooklyn on Tuesday afternoon for its first of five games this week. The Scarlet jumped on the Sharks’ pitching early, gaining a 5-0 lead in the second until Lindsey Cowans put LIU on the board with an RBI groundout. LIU would score once again on an Alexia Castro groundout, cutting the lead to three. Unfortunately for the Sharks, Rutgers would respond with five in the top of the fifth and would take the game 10-2.
