Leon Nickel Named SLC Freshman of the Year

FRISCO, Texas – Lamar University's Leon Nickel has been named Southland Conference Freshman of the Year leading a cast of three Cardinals named to the 2024 All-SLC squad. In addition to Nickel's honor, juniors Max Amling and Haruki Omori-Cowie have been named second-team All-Southland Conference. Nickel becomes the third player in school history to receive the Southland's top freshman honor, and the first since Benny Schweizer in 2015.
