Ranking the top 10 MLB players from the state of Mississippi
8. Claude Passeau, RHP (Waynesboro)
Passeau is often overlooked for pitchers of the 1930s and 40s. However, his 13-year professional career (1935-1947) boasts some quality stats. His biggest moment came in game three of the World Series with the Cubs, throwing a one-hit shutout against the Detroit Tigers. Passeau was a five-time All-Star who averaged 15 wins pitching in 252 innings over ten years (1936-45) with the Phillies and the Cubs. He was inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame in 1964.
After splitting the first two games of the 1945 World Series, Claude Passeau delivered the Cubs a 2-1 lead.
Passeau threw a 1-hitter to defeat Detroit, the best World Series pitching performance ever (this side of Don Larsen).
