Elijah Hawkins transferring: 5 possible landing spots

MINNEAPOLIS (BVM) – Elijah Hawkins has entered the college basketball transfer portal for the second time in as many years after a strong junior season at Minnesota.

Hawkins starred at powerhouse DeMatha Catholic during high school before staying close to home to begin his college career at Howard. In 2021-22, the 5-foot-11 guard averaged 13 points as the MEAC Rookie of the Year. Hawkins put up similar numbers the following season, leading the Bison to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 31 years as a first-team All-MEAC performer.

The Washington D.C. native decided to transfer to Minnesota this past season and started 33 games for the Golden Gophers, becoming a true leader for Ben Johnson’s squad. Hawkins averaged 9.5 points, 7.5 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.6 steals while shooting over 36% from 3-point range. The talented guard did a little bit of everything for Minnesota, but his best asset was his ability to facilitate as he set program records for assists in a single game (17), assists in a postseason game (15) and assists in a single season (247).

Hawkins’ proven capability to facilitate at the high-major level in addition to his defense and scoring ability will make him a sought-after guard in the transfer portal, and he has reportedly already heard from a host of programs during his short stay in the portal thus far. Here are five landing spots for Hawkins.
