Distance runners, throws kick off first day of home meet

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson College women’s track and field team opened the Kip Janvrin Open with its distance runners and throws taking center stage. The majority of the success came in the 1,500 meters, with Lara Kallem taking ninth overall in a time of 4:43.72, a new personal best. Kallem also won her heat by outkicking the field over the final 100 meters. The majority of the rest of the 1,500 meters set either a personal or season best, with Teghan Booth running under the five-minute barrier as well, in a time of 4:51.07.
