Melvin Council Jr. transferring: 5 possible landing spots

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (BVM) – Melvin Council Jr. has become one of the latest mid-major college basketball stars to enter the transfer portal, doing so following a terrific season with the Wagner Seahawks where he earned first-team All-NEC honors.

Council Jr. began his collegiate career at the JUCO level with Monroe College after a strong high school career at University Prep in Rochester, New York. Council Jr. proved his elite scoring ability with the Mustangs as he scored 1,400 points in two seasons while becoming an NJCAA Division I All-American.

The 6-foot-4 guard’s skill set translated to the NCAA Division I level as well this past season as he averaged nearly 15 points at Wagner while also putting up 5.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Council Jr. was a driving force behind Wagner making its first NCAA Tournament appearance in over 20 years and shined on the biggest stage with 21 points in the Seahawks’ first four win over Howard and 18 points in Wagner’s matchup with No. 1 seed North Carolina.

Council Jr. proved throughout the season that he could be ready to take the next step to the high-major level if given the opportunity and he will be an interesting name to monitor while in the transfer portal. Here are five potential landing spots for the talented guard.
