A.J. Hoggard enters transfer portal: 5 possible landing spots

EAST LANSING, Mich. (BVM) – A.J. Hoggard has officially entered the transfer portal following four seasons at Michigan State. Hoggard’s departure from East Lansing had seemed more and more likely in recent weeks, particularly with head coach Tom Izzo expressing that he expected Hoggard to be playing elsewhere if he returned to the collegiate level in 2024-25.

Hoggard arrived in East Lansing in 2020 as a four-star recruit following a terrific high school career spent at Archbishop Carroll in Philadelphia and later Huntington Prep in West Virginia. While he didn’t put up huge numbers early on, the 6-foot-4 guard was a valuable contributor in Michigan State’s backcourt in his freshman and sophomore seasons before emerging as a full-time starter and one of the Spartans’ leading scorers in 2022-23 as he put up nearly 13 points per game.

In 2023-24, Hoggard again provided a steady and reliable presence for Izzo in the backcourt, averaging 10.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting over 40% from the field and nearly 35% from 3-point range.

Hoggard has been one of the most consistent guards in the Big Ten over the past couple of years and his proven two-way ability combined with his wealth of experience should make him an intriguing portal option for several programs across the country. Here are five landing spots for Hoggard.
