1. Pete Rose, Utility

The majors’ all-time hits leader with 4,256 base knocks, Rose spent most of his 24-year professional career in his native Cincinnati. A 17-time All-Star, “Charlie Hustle” also owns major league records for games (3,562), at-bats (14,053), and singles (3,215).

Three years after graduating from Cincy’s Western Hills High School, Rose earned the NL Rookie of the Year award in 1963. He was the Senior Circuit’s MVP a decade later.

After 16 seasons with the Reds, Rose signed with Philadelphia in 1979 and won his third World Series ring a year later. In 1984, he recorded his 4,000th career hit during a short stint with the Montreal Expos before returning to the Queen City as a player-manager.

Despite his accomplished odyssey, Rose is barred from the Baseball Hall of Fame and isn’t typically recognized by Major League Baseball because of a gambling controversy.
