Top 10 breakout players early in the 2024 MLB season
CJ Abrams, SS, Washington Nationals
Abrams has cooled off a bit since a scorching hot start, but his overall beginning to the 2024 season has been encouraging for the Nationals. The 23-year-old infielder was one of the main pieces in the Juan Soto trade a couple of years ago and had a respectable first full season on the field in Washington D.C. last year. He has taken things to another level in 2024 though, hitting .283 with a .348 on-base percentage and a .914 OPS. Perhaps the most encouraging part of Abrams’ game has been his power as he has hit seven home runs with a .914 slugging percentage. Abrams has also added 19 RBIs, 24 runs and eight stolen bases. He’s a big reason why the Nationals have gotten off to a mildly surprising .500 start as he has finally begun looking like a future franchise cornerstone.
