St. Augustine hires basketball coach who starred on its national title team in the 1990s
St. Augustine promoted former boys basketball assistant coach Wade Mason Jr. to head coach, the school announced Tuesday. Mason played on the St. Augustine team that USA Today selected as the high school national champion in 1995. St. Augustine announced the promotion one week after former coach Gerald Lewis resigned after four seasons as head coach. Mason spent one season on the staff with Lewis. “To come back home means everything to me,” Mason said in a release from the school. “Too many people go through life without knowing their purpose.
