Texas has had a special season and the No. 1-ranked Longhorns are a favorite to win the Women’s College World Series along with rival Oklahoma. There have been several important contributors for the Longhorns both in the circle and at the plate, but the biggest has been Atwood. The 6-foot catcher and first baseman has followed up a second-team All-Big 12 season as a freshman with a true breakout as a sophomore where she was recently named Big 12 Player of the Year as she has hit .433 while racking up 68 hits overall. Perhaps Atwood’s top attribute is her power as she has hit 21 home runs – the fourth-most in the country – to go along with 83 RBIs which are the most in college softball. Between Atwood, Mia Scott, Ashton Maloney and Katie Stewart, Texas will have one of the most potent lineups in the postseason.
