Q&A with Marvin Ridge lacrosse player Brooke Lattanzi

WAXHAW, N.C. — A Q&A with Brooke Lattanzi who is a senior at Marvin Ridge High School. She has played lacrosse for 13 years and previously played for the Charlotte Style.

What are your personal goals within your sport/athletic dreams?

Brooke Lattanzi: I have high hopes for the Marvin Ridge team and hope to win the conference championship and make it to the state championship.

What is your biggest challenge in your sport, and what do you do to manage this challenge?

Lattanzi: The biggest challenge for me is the mental side of the game. I replay mistakes in my mind and have learned I must move on to keep succeeding throughout the game.

What was the best advice you were ever given?

Lattanzi: I was advised to always remember why I play lacrosse; to have fun. Remembering to have fun makes a bad practice or a bad game seem minuscule and reminds me how I love playing alongside my best friends. I think celebrating little things on the field and celebrating when my friends score is so important to make them feel important and give them confidence.

What do you love about your sport?

Lattanzi: I love how social lacrosse is and how when I am playing it’s all I have to think about. I love how I can focus on having fun with my friends and just getting better. I love meeting people from across the country who share a passion for lacrosse. I also loved being a part of a club team and meeting people from other schools, I have met some of my best friends from lacrosse and will have these friendships for the rest of my life.

Do you have a pregame ritual you follow?

Lattanzi: Before games, the most important thing I do is to have a focused warmup and hype up my teammates. I believe when everyone is excited and concentrated, we are the most successful.

What do you like to do outside of your sport?

Lattanzi: Besides lacrosse, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I have babysat for years, and also enjoy cooking and traveling.

What has being a member of a team-taught you?

Lattanzi: Being a member has taught me valuable lessons about how to work with people I do not agree with or enjoy their personalities. On the field, you must put all differences aside and become focused on working together and winning.

Describe a mistake you made while competing and how you overcame it.

Lattanzi: When playing my games, a common mistake I make is being too predictable. I tend to show exactly what I am about to do. I typically talk to my coach about how to improve and move on rather than replaying the mistake in my head.

Highlight

Lattanzi: I am signed to play at Penn State and I will be enrolled starting fall of 2024!
