10. Matt Wieters, C

Wieters, a Goose Creek native, arrived in the majors with heavy expectations.

The backstop was Baseball America’s Minor League Player of the Year in 2008 and debuted with Baltimore the following season. Wieters was a four-time All-Star — including a nod in 2014 after he had to undergo Tommy John surgery — and a two-time Gold Glover.

His numbers at the plate declined after his elbow injury and he eventually signed with Washington in 2017. Wieters would finish his dozen-year career with St. Louis in 2020.
