Ranking the top 10 MLB players from the state of Utah
5. Ed Heusser, RHP (Salt Lake County)
One of the many pitchers on this list, Heusser was a force on the mound. Standing at six-foot and 187 pounds, Heusser pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals (1935-36), Philadelphia Phillies (1938, 1948), Philadelphia Athletics (1940) and Cincinnati Reds (1943-46) during his nine-season professional career. His first few years were tough, but after returning to the major leagues in 1943 after serving in World War II for three years, Heusser rapidly improved his game. In 1944, he led the National League with a 2.38 ERA and placed top 10 in complete games with 17 and shutouts with four. He retired in 1948 with a 3.70 ERA.
