Martin Necas on the move?: 5 possible landing spots
Buffalo Sabres
The trade: The Sabres acquire Necas. The Hurricanes acquire Henri Jokiharju and Matthew Savoie.
The Sabres could use another forward to add to the top of their lineup and Necas would be a great fit. Buffalo already has long-term pieces with Tage Thompson and Dylan Cozens as well as younger guys who can make an impact like JJ Peterka, Zach Benson and Jack Quinn. Necas’ ability with the puck would be an asset not only on five-on-five play, but on special teams as well.
Jokijarju had a decent season and he is still 24 years old. Brady Skeji, Brett Pesce and Jalen Chatfield are all free agents this offseason, so the Hurricanes could look for some insurance via trade. The Finnish blueliner would not have the same type of impact as some of those guys, but he could be plugged into the lineup with the chance to improve his game. Savoie, the No. 9 overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, put up 71 points this season in 34 games. He is viewed as one of the top prospects in a loaded system.
