NiJaree Canady enters transfer portal: 5 possible landing spots
STANFORD, Calif. (BVM) – Some notable players have entered the college softball transfer portal over the past few weeks, but NiJaree Canady has instantly become the biggest name to do so following recent reports that she plans to transfer from Stanford this offseason.
Canady was a two-time state champion, a two-time state Gatorade Player of the Year and an All-American at Topeka High School in Kansas who has lived up to the hype in her first two seasons of college softball with the Cardinal. In 2023, the 6-foot pitcher was named college softball’s freshman of the year by multiple outlets and was a first-team All-Pac-12 selection, going 17-3 with a 0.53 ERA and 218 strikeouts across 135 innings pitched.
In 2024, Canady was even better as she helped lead the Cardinal to the Women’s College World Series, going 24-7 with 29 complete games and nine shutouts. The talented hurler had a strong 0.73 ERA, a .147 opponent batting average and led the country with 337 strikeouts across 230 ⅔ innings.
With incredible success at the collegiate level thus far and two years of eligibility remaining, Canady will be a hot commodity during her time in the portal and should have an opportunity to land with one of the top programs in college softball. Here are five possible landing spots for Canady.
