Ranking the top 10 Arizona Cardinals in franchise history
7. Ollie Matson, RB (1952-58)
Matson never really had much in terms of help.
He glowed as one of the Cardinals’ sparse bright spots during a six-year stretch in which the team went a combined 23-58-3. Chicago had just one winning season within that span, but Matson scored the most touchdowns in the league (50) over that time. He also rumbled for the third-most rushing yards (3,331) and placed the same in carries (761).
A standout runner, as well, Matson earned a silver medal in the 1,600-meter relay and a bronze in the 400 meters at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. He was taken third overall by the Redbirds in the NFL Draft that same year, starting his Pro Football Hall of Fame career.
A winner of a silver medal in the 4×400-meter relay and a bronze in the 400-meter run at the 1952 Olympics, Ollie Matson joins Jim Thorpe and Bob Hayes as the only members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame to win Olympic medals.
