Klay Thompson ‘intends to test’ free agency: 5 landing spots
SAN FRANCISCO (BVM) – Klay Thompson is one of the biggest names in NBA free agency this offseason as the four-time champion could be moving on from the Golden State Warriors after spending the first 13 years of his pro career with the franchise.
On a recent episode of FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back,” NBA insider Shams Charania revealed that Thompson is “open to all external options in free agency” and that “he intends to test free agency.” Thompson also recently unfollowed the Warriors on Instagram, sparking further speculation that he could be moving on to a new chapter of his NBA career.
While Thompson could ultimately leave Golden State, the Warriors are expected to do what they can to keep the veteran shooting guard around. During a recent media availability, Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. was blunt about the front office’s feelings regarding Thompson, simply stating, “we want him back.”
Thompson has been one of the league’s most popular players during his time in the Bay Area as a member of the “Splash Brothers” alongside Steph Curry. The 6-foot-6 shooting guard is a four-time champion and a five-time All-Star who has averaged nearly 20 points across his 13-year career while shooting over 41% from 3-point range.
Since tearing his ACL in the 2019 NBA Finals and rupturing his Achilles tendon the following year, Thompson has not quite been the same player, but he has still averaged 17.9 points or better each of the past three seasons while proving that he remains a lethal threat from beyond the arc. Even despite the wear and tear, Thompson’s championship pedigree and valuable skill set should make him a hot commodity as free agency begins. Here are five landing spots for the sharpshooting guard.
