2024 Fair Haven Firecracker 5K race
FAIR HAVEN, N.J. — The 2024 Firecracker 5K began on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at 8 AM, starting and finishing at the Concession Stand at Fair Haven Fields. The top female and male finishers were placed into 3 categories – kids, high school, and masters. Roughly 50 runners and walkers showed up, with an extra heavy contingent of grade schoolers this time. This is the fourth annual running of the race, which humbly started with six or seven runners in 2021 on a very hot day as we were emerging from lockdown due to the pandemic.
This year, our winners were in order,
• 1st place Male and HS category – Colin Hendrikson, a sophomore and RFH track member with a time of 20:43
• 1st place, Male and Kids category – Henry Farrant a 3rd grader with a time of 22:50.
• 1st place winner for our Female HS category and RFH track member, Kaitlyn Hathaway, with a 22:54.
• 1st place winner in the Male Master’s category and two-time winner, Jack Harrington, with a 22:59.
• 1st place Female in the Master’s category was Kelli Cumiskey, with a 24:16
• 1st place winner in the Female Kids category was 6th grader Natalie Farrant with a 31:23.
A special shout out to David Pinsley, also an RFH track member, finishing 2nd overall and the only other runner coming in well under the 7-minute pace, with a blistering 21:04 time in the boy’s high school category.
The weather was warm at 74 F at the start of the race, but it was plenty cool for some fast times without overheating. Many runners were repeat racers, and refreshments and music were supplied throughout the event. Special thanks to the volunteers who help set up and for the mayor who handed out the hardware to the winners. This race is put on at no cost to the participants and all supplies are donated.
