5 teams who could trade for Cody Bellinger if Cubs sell
St. Louis Cardinals
The trade: The Cardinals acquire Bellinger. The Cubs acquire Chase Davis and Joshua Baez.
The Cardinals and Cubs are not often trade partners, but it would not be the first time the two organizations have hooked up for a star outfielder trade, à la Lou Brock. Injuries to Lars Nootbar and Tommy Edman have been felt by St. Louis and it could result in it adding an outfielder before the trade deadline. Michael Siani and Dylan Carlson have not been good offensively. Bellinger being plugged into that spot would be huge for the Cardinals’ lineup.
Davis was St. Louis’ first-round pick last year and he is the organization’s No. 6 prospect. He is off to a slow start in his professional career, but he still brings plenty of power to the plate. He slugged .742 in his final collegiate year at Arizona. Davis is still being trotted out as a center fielder, and he has more value if he can stay there. Baez, a former second-round pick, has struggled the past couple of years in the minors. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound outfielder can hit the ball as hard as anyone, but the problem has been how often he hits the ball. Baez just turned 21 on June 28.
