Buena Colts football: The road to the championship starts in the summer
SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. — Summer is here! School has been dismissed until August and High School students are resting as they recover from grueling spring classes. But your Buena Colts Football Team is continuing to train and practice in anticipation of the 2023 season. Coach Thomas has gathered another great coaching staff that is focused on getting to the playoffs. One big addition to the staff is Assistant Head Coach Determan, who was acquired from Benson High School, where he was the head coach. Coach Thomas is committed to building a successful program and fostering a positive and supportive environment for all our student-athletes. Coach Thomas is looking forward to this year, as they open on 8/25/23 with their new state-of-the-art scoreboard with upgraded audio/visual equipment and they also have a new weight room. Coach Thomas believes that coaching football is a great opportunity to reach students on a personal level. Coaching gives him the opportunity to educate and inspire the young men he works with. He believes in development on three levels; the whole athlete, the athlete’s education, and the athletic ability if the player.
In today’s world, it is important that when you have the opportunity to develop a solid base of beliefs in the future leaders of our society that we have and obligation to do so. Some of Coach Thomas’ beliefs and basis for his life were established by his Tombstone High School, Pima Community College, and Northern Arizona University coaches. Giving a sold foundation to the players that Coach Thomas mentors is the most important thing that he can pass along.
This season Coach Thomas is focusing on laying the foundation of future success. They are building Buena Football brick by brick, focusing on developing a positive culture where players feel empowered to achieve. they have challenged our seniors this year to lay this foundation through and unselfish approach to football. They have been asked to help guide the younger players as to what it means to be a Buena Colt and help them learn from their past so that future Colts can achieve more. they focus on the TEAM, rather than the ME, to ensure a tight-knit program which will turn into a family as the year progresses. Coach Thomas is pushing his players to be better athletes, students, sons, brothers, and humans than they were the day before.
Keep up the great work Coach Thomas and Staff! We are excited about going to the BIG GAME – STATE CHAMPIONS!
