Chris Bassitt’s trade value rising: 5 possible landing spots
Houston Astros
The trade: The Astros acquire Bassitt. The Blue Jays acquire Zach Cole, Pedro León and Camilo Diaz.
The Astros have been hit hard by pitching injuries and someone like Bassitt would be a huge addition to eat innings. They have tried to throw in younger guys into the mix like Jake Bloss and Spencer Arrighetti, but they have not produced so far. Houston does not have the luxury of allowing them to develop in the majors as it should be fighting for a playoff spot down the stretch. Bassitt would be a much better option.
Cole is having another tremendous year in the minor leagues after being a 10th-round pick in 2022 out of Ball State. He has a .852 OPS this season while being a plus defender in center field. Leon is 26 years old and is having a good campaign in AAA, but he is expected to be more of a versatile bench player once he gets to the majors. Diaz signed with the Astros in 2023 and is still 18 years old. He is likely to be a third baseman once he fills out his 6-foot-3 frame with some pop at the plate.
