Bikes, gravel and community: SBT GRVL returns to Routt County
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. — Embarking on its sixth year, SBT GRVL returns to Routt County this August with a two-day Expo on Yampa Street, the infamous HLL CLMB on Howelsen, a toddler race with Alpine Bank, an FLM FST presented by Outside at the Bud Werner Memorial Library, Yoga with Old Town Hot Springs, Panels with Professional Athletes, and a Ride for Racial Justice.
With fun and inclusivity as fundamental core values, the locally owned SBT GRVL team focuses not only on race day but also on creating an unforgettable weekend experience for riders, their families and friends, local businesses, industry partners, and the local community. SBT GRVL is a celebration of diversity and inclusion, much more than a bike race, and includes various activities for all participants. The majestic beauty of Routt County’s countryside, camaraderie with fellow cyclists, and the challenge of our stunning gravel roads are not easy to forget.
SBT GRVL has become one of the premier gravel cycling events in the world. The event attracts cyclists aged 7 to 86, representing 24 countries and every state in the US. SBT GRVL prides itself on paving the way in the cycling industry by attracting beginners, first-time cyclists, amateur racers, and internationally renowned professional riders to the same event.
SBT GRVL is proud of sustaining financial contributions to local non-profit organizations, including The Cycle Effect, Boys and Girls Club of Northwest Colorado, Search and Rescue, and the Routt County Rider teams. We contribute year-round to support and promote these organizations. The fundamental pillars of SBT GRVL are driven by investment in rider experience and supporting vital causes for us and the local community.
The SBT GRVL team is deeply committed to providing a positive experience to all, not only for the gravel riders and visitors to Routt County but also for our local community. Working closely with the rural community over the past nine months has resulted in changes to the event that will ensure its positive impact and sustainability for years. While SBT GRVL still features the Green, Red, Blue, and Black course distances, ranging from 37 to 125 miles, three of those course routes are new this year and explore the western and southern areas of Routt County.
In addition to new courses, SBT GRVL has launched the Respect the Routt campaign. The campaign is an action plan honing in on key topics such as safety, kindness, and stewardship. SBT GRVL is leading the way with cyclist stewardship and has required every rider to agree to the GRVL oaths of conduct.
We are honored to live in such an incredible community and remain committed to ensuring a positive experience for everyone involved.
