Ranking each Big Ten football head coach entering 2024 season

1. Ryan Day, Ohio State

A couple of things are missing from Day’s resume. The first is a national championship which he has come close to with three College Football Playoff appearances in five seasons. The other is the lack of success against Michigan as the Buckeyes have lost to the Wolverines three straight times. Those two factors loom large, but otherwise, Day has been as good as any coach in the country over the last several years. After bouncing around at the collegiate level and in the NFL with the Eagles and 49ers, Day became Ohio State’s offensive coordinator in 2017 and replaced Urban Meyer soon after. He has gone 56-8 since and was named Big Ten Coach of the Year in 2019. Day needs to prove he can win big games, but the level of talent he has brought to Ohio State has the Buckeyes in national title contention again in 2024.
