Ranking each Big 12 football head coach entering 2024 season
5. Matt Campbell, Iowa State
Campbell has been a head coach at the Division I level since 2012 and at Iowa State since 2016. No matter what hand he is dealt, the 44-year-old from Ohio continues to keep the Cyclones in a good spot as they have had just one losing season in the last seven years. An argument could also be made that Campbell hasn’t exactly taken Iowa State to the next level either with zero double-digit win seasons, but he did help the Cyclones to a Fiesta Bowl victory and top-10 finish in the AP poll in 2020. Campbell, who has garnered plenty of interest for other collegiate and NFL jobs through the years, has led one of the most consistent eras of Iowa State football, and with the conference’s new-look going forward, the Cyclones may turn into a perennial contender in the Big 12.
