Chiefs’ Chris Jones offers $1.5M to free chicken wing thief

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (BVM) – Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones is willing to use some of his NFL earnings to free a chicken wing thief from prison.

An Illinois school worker, Vera Liddell, was sentenced to nine years in prison for stealing $1.5 million worth of chicken wings during the COVID-19 pandemic. Liddell stole more than 11,000 cases of wings that were meant to be take-home meals for students doing remote learning, according to NBC Chicago.

“I’ll pay for the wings that she stole to get her free,” Jones tweeted on X following the viral news.

But many NFL fans disapprove of Jones’ decision to free a guilty person from prison. After all, the reality is that Liddell stole $1.5 million from a Chicago-area school district.

“How about pay for the lunches of the kids she was stealing food from,” retweeted one user.

On the other hand, considering that Liddell is 68 years old, a near-decade-long incarceration could feel like a life sentence – over chicken wings. The school worker pleaded guilty to “theft and operating a financial criminal enterprise.”

“Nine years outa pocket for a non-violent crime,” another user retweeted.

Jones could easily cover the $1.5 million due to his five-year, $158.75 million extension, however, a judge would never approve of such a negation in a court of law.
