Louisiana HS QB named nation’s No. 1 prospect: Next LSU star?
BATON ROUGE, La. (BVM) – Quarterback Elijah Haven of Dunham School in Louisiana has been ranked as the nation’s No. 1 prospect, per 247Sports’ debut rankings for the Class of 2027 (rising sophomores).
LSU has a promising chance of landing the nation’s top QB for the 2027 cycle, considering that Haven has already identified the Tigers as his top choice for college football.
“For football, I’d definitely say LSU,” Haven previously told WAFB. “I want to play for my hometown if the opportunity presents itself for sure.”
Haven even wears the No. 5 jersey, just like former LSU star and Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels.
“I’ve definitely been in contact with LSU and Coach Sloan, definitely having a relationship with them in the future for sure,” Haven previously told WAFB. “He’s not fast to recruit, he really wants to build a relationship with me and I really appreciate that. He just wants to get to know me for me.”
Despite only playing his freshman season, Haven already has D-I offers from the Big 12, ACC, SEC and the Ivy League. He holds offers from Texas Tech, Miami, Ole Miss, Baylor and Florida. As a 4.0 student-athlete, he even has an offer from Cornell.
As a freshman in 2023, Haven completed 67 percent of his passes for 2,205 yards and 35 touchdowns, rushing for 641 yards and 12 touchdowns. He went 8-3 and reached the state regionals in football.
“He’s mature beyond his years,” Dunham School football coach Neil Weiner told GeauxPreps. “You can watch the way he handles himself and talks. Most 15-year-olds aren’t going to look you in the eye with complete thoughts and sentences coming out. He’s really polished in a lot of areas before he should be.”
Andrew Ivins, 247Sports’ scouting director, praised Haven for his internal clock in the pocket and ability to avoid sacks. He even went as far as to say that Haven could one day be a franchise signal caller.
Haven’s future is equally promising on the basketball court. The 6-foot-4 forward led Dunham to a 27-7 overall record and a state semifinal appearance.
“I feel like I’m a good passer in basketball so football kind of helps me with that,” Haven said in an interview with Whoa! Sports World.
When The Advocate asked Haven whether he prefers football or basketball more, Haven responded, “both.”
