Ranking NL teams with best chance to reach 2024 World Series
1. Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies are in a neck-and-neck battle with the Dodgers for the top seed in the NL and have consistently looked like the league’s best team throughout the season. Philadelphia raced out to a hot start as it won 40 games before June and has actually played just .500 ball since the All-Star break. However, with a recent stretch of 11 wins in 13 games and a relatively light remaining schedule outside of road series with the Brewers and Mets, Philly is poised to grab the No. 1 seed.
Philadelphia has experience from its surprising World Series run two years ago and much of the lineup from that season remains intact as Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber have led the way while Nick Castellanos, Alec Bohm and Trea Turner continue to be vital pieces for Philly’s offense. Overall, the Phillies are top five in the majors in average, OPS and on-base percentage and also have power up and down the lineup led by Schwarber who has 33 home runs.
Meanwhile, the Phillies’ pitching has also been terrific as they rank fourth in the big leagues in WHIP, sixth in ERA and seventh in both earned runs allowed and strikeouts. Between Aaron Nola, Zach Wheeler, Christopher Sanchez and Ranger Suarez, Philadelphia’s starting rotation may be as strong and deep as any in the NL heading into the postseason. The bullpen has also been solid headlined by righthander Jeff Hoffman. Between pitching, hitting and health, the Phillies may ultimately have the best chance of representing the NL in the 2024 World Series.
