Bellbrook HS girls golf hopes for SWBL 3-peat
BELLBROOK, Ohio — This marks the third year of the Bellbrook High School (BHS) girls’ golf team, which has only been in existence since 2022. Before that time female golfers had to compete on the boys’ team.
In its short tenure, the program has had tremendous success. The team won the Southwestern Buckeye League (SWBL) in 2022 and 2023, and it has a great chance to repeat in 2024. The Lady Golden Eagles have also had the last two conference players of the year, Alexi Knight (2022) and Alayna Meyer (2023).
Last season the Golden Eagles were a perfect 12-0 in regular season matches. The team took first place in the Lady Bucc Invitational, Miamisburg Invitational and SWBL league tournament. The team took second place at the Division One sectional tournament and qualified for the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) district tournament for the first time in school history, finishing in sixth place.
Although the 2024 schedule will be challenging for the team—especially competing in Centerville’s Lady Elk Invitational at The Golf Club at Yankee Trace and the Alter Knight Invite at NCR Country Club—the Lady Golden Eagles look to build on last year’s success. The team returns all but two players from last year’s team (Alayna Meyer, First Team SWBL; and Ava Miller, Second Team SWBL). Returning are senior Lainey Schleich (First Team SWBL); juniors Ainsley Gregory (First Team SWBL), Sara Knee and Alexi Knight (First Team SWBL); and sophomore Alina Shroyer (Honorable Mention SWBL). Freshman Kayla Wells rounds out the roster.
Our goal is to continue the BHS girls’ golf program for years to come. We have a great group of girls who enjoy not only playing golf, but simply being around each other. Everyone on the team gets along and has fun, which is what it’s all about. We are always looking for new student athletes to join the program and continue their success!
