Angel Reese’s viral rant on high cost of living with $8K rent
(BVM) – Chicago Sky star Angel Reese is going viral after revealing that her $74,000 WNBA salary isn’t enough to cover her bills, including her $8,000 monthly rent and other essentials like food.
Reese talked about the high cost of living in a recent Instagram Live video, shown below.

“The WNBA don’t pay my bills at all,” Reese said. “I don’t even think that pays one of my bills. Literally. I’m trying to think about my rent where I stay at … I’m living beyond my means. My rent is… $8,000.”
Although Reese makes $74,000 a year (WNBA salary), equating to around $6,166 a month – her rent is a staggering $8,000 monthly, totaling $96,000 annually.
Reese’s comment, “I’m living beyond my means,” led fans online to believe she can’t afford rent. However, Reese clarified her statement through a retweet on X:
“Angel on the cover of the Wall Street Journal and y’all think she can’t afford rent lol,” Reese retweeted on X to help sort out the confusion.
In the Instagram Live, Reese further highlighted the high cost of living:
“That WNBA check don’t pay a thing,” Reese said. “Did that even pay my car note? I wouldn’t even be able to eat a sandwich if I wanted to. I wouldn’t even be able to eat. I wouldn’t be able to live.”
Reese’s comments felt somewhat out of touch, as many Americans have no choice but to afford housing and food on a $74,000 salary or less. But, Reese did acknowledge that she is fortunate to have additional income streams.
Those additional streams of income include her countless endorsements and collaborations. It’s resulted in a net worth of $1.5 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
Reese has previously said that some of her top expenses are self-care, charity and travel. The “Bayou Barbie” claims that her No. 1 expense is fashion, but she also makes sure to set aside money for savings.
“I buy (designer) bags, that’s something I have to stop doing,” she stated in a TikTok video… “Every check I get goes into my savings; trust me, I have a lot of savings.”
