Kicking for a cause: Delone Catholic’s Nolan Kruse tackles childhood cancer

MCSHERRYSTOWN, Pa. — In the world of high school sports, athletes often dream of personal glory and team victories. But for Nolan Kruse, a senior at Delone Catholic High School, his athletic career has become a powerful tool for a cause much bigger than any game.

Kruse, a four-year varsity starter on the boys’ soccer team and the senior kicker for the football team, has decided to dedicate his final high school football season to the fight against childhood cancer. This summer, while attending The Kohl’s National Scholarship Kicking Camp in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, Kruse made a commitment that would transform his senior year into a campaign of hope and generosity.

Partnering with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer, a renowned nonprofit organization, Kruse has launched a unique fundraising initiative. For every extra point and field goal he successfully kicks during the 2024 season, donors can pledge a specific amount, creating a direct link between his on-field performance and the battle against childhood cancer.

“I’ve been blessed with the ability to play sports at a high level,” Kruse explains. “Using my skills to make a difference in the lives of kids fighting cancer just felt like the right thing to do.”

The campaign also allows for one-time donations, giving community members, fans, and supporters various ways to contribute to this worthy cause. As the football season approaches, anticipation builds not just for the team’s success, but for the impact Kruse’s kicks will have beyond the scoreboard.

Kruse’s initiative is a testament to the power of young athletes to effect change in their communities. It serves as an inspiring example of how sports can be a vehicle for social good, teaching valuable lessons about empathy, social responsibility, and the importance of giving back.

As Kruse prepares for his final high school football season, he carries with him not just the hopes of his team and school, but the aspirations of countless families affected by childhood cancer. Each successful kick will not only add points to the scoreboard but will also contribute to the ongoing research and support for young cancer patients.

As the season unfolds, all eyes will be on this young kicker, not just for his athletic performance, but for the profound impact his dedication could have on the lives of children battling cancer. Nolan Kruse’s senior year promises to be one of purpose, compassion, and hope – proving that sometimes, the most important goals are those that extend far beyond the end zone.
