WRESTLING: Royal wins Southern Slam weight class

Goose Creek High School sophomore wrestler Montero Royal won the 113-pound weight class in the Southern Slam Dec. 6-7 at Eastside High School. Forty-nine teams competed in the annual event and the Gators placed 18th with 86.5 points. Buford, Ga., was the top team with 226 points. Royal, a state champion at 106 pounds as a freshman, was 4-0 with two wins via fall and two by technical fall. He pinned his opponent in the championship match.
