John Mateer transferring: 5 possible landing spots for QB

Alabama’s interest in Mateer may be contingent on what Jalen Milroe decides to do this offseason, but he could be a target for Kalen DeBoer if Milroe heads to the pros. DeBoer has groomed several talented quarterbacks through the years, including Jake Haener at Fresno State and Michael Penix Jr. at Washington, which could be enticing to Mateer if he considers transferring to Tuscaloosa. Milroe proved this season that a dual-threat signal caller can also thrive in DeBoer’s offense, and Mateer’s overall passing ability could eventually prove to be an upgrade on that of Milroe. That might give the Crimson Tide the boost they need to return to the College Football Playoff in 2025 which would be significant for DeBoer’s job security after Alabama endured its first three-loss season since 2010 in his first year.
