LeGarrette Blount was an underrated NFL RB; Where is he now?
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (BVM) – LeGarrette Blount’s football journey from high school to college and the NFL was anything but conventional.
Blount ranked as a two-star running back at Taylor County High School (Florida), which landed him in JUCO football at East Mississippi Community College. He later transferred to Oregon, where he found success with the Ducks, yet he still didn’t get drafted in the 2010 NFL Draft.
Despite this, Blount defied the odds and crafted a successful nine-year NFL career – earning two Super Bowl rings with the New England Patriots and one Super Bowl ring with the Philadelphia Eagles. He led the league in rushing touchdowns during the 2016 season and retired with an impressive 6,306 rushing yards and 56 touchdowns.
Now, here’s an update on LeGarrette Blount today.
LeGarrette Blount on why he punched a Boise State player
Aside from the title of former NFL player, Blount is perhaps most known for the punch he landed on a Boise State player during his time as an Oregon Duck.
The infamous incident occurred in 2009 when Blount punched Boise State linebacker Byron Hout after a game. Blount apologized to Hout the following day and was suspended for 10 games before officially returning for the Ducks.
In a more recent 2022 interview with LaVar Arrington, the former Oregon Duck recalled why he threw a punch at a Boise State player:
“I’m walking off the field with my head down (after the 19-8 loss), and I’m like, ‘Damn, they beat our a**. I ain’t do sh**.’ I’m kind of tight. I hear this guy talking to me, ‘Hey? How about that a**-whoopin? You said you were gonna beat our a**.’ I’m hearing him now and he gets closer and closer to me and slaps my shoulder pad (and says), ‘How bout that a**-whoopin?’ and then the N-word. This ain’t about football no more. Officially you done made it about something else.”
Unfortunately, the infamous punch remains one of the most talked-about moments of Blount’s career, and it nearly cost him his future in the NFL.
“That (Boise State) incident discredited everything I did the year before,” Blount said on the “Willing To Fail” podcast about going undrafted in the NFL. “That incident shouldn’t define who I was as a person… you see that I’m the best running back in the draft.”
Where is LeGarrette Blount now?
Blount last played in the NFL in 2018, and he officially retired in 2020 on his 34th birthday. Today, the 38-year-old holds a net worth of around $7 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
Since retirement, Blount has shifted his focus to entrepreneurship. He founded LGs Feel Good, a company that specializes in CBD-based wellness products that help with recovery, sleep, anxiety and pain relief. Blount shared that his goal is to offer athletes an alternative to pain pills – emphasizing the importance of providing a safer option “without the addiction.”
Blount’s business ventures have continued to evolve, and in 2024, he launched a cannabis line called “LeGarrette Blount’s World Champion Cannabis” in collaboration with the cannabis company Heavyweight Heads.
Regarding football, Blount remains involved by coaching his son, Legarrette Blount Jr., who is “locked in on being a Duck” for the 2028 recruiting class, according to a social media post by Blount Sr. So far, Blount Jr.’s first and only Division I football offer is from Marshall.
Blount Sr., reflecting on his own journey, shared a message in a 2022 interview with TSC News: “Don’t let anyone tell you you can’t do something – because I’m a living, breathing example that you can literally do anything.”
