Top 10 Minnesota Golden Gophers basketball players of all time
5. Kevin McHale (1977-80)
One of Minnesota’s best, McHale led the Gophers to the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) his senior year, while also earning first team All-Big Ten honors as a forward. He was named the Gophers’ MVP, setting the career shot-blocking record with 235. McHale averaged 15.2 points and 8.5 rebounds per game throughout his college years, and finished with 1,704 career points, fifth all-time. The Gophers retired McHale’s jersey in 1993, just the third player to receive the honor.
