Mariners taking calls on Luis Castillo: 5 landing spots
SEATTLE (BVM) – Seattle Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo is the subject of recent trade discussions. MLB.com’s Daniel Kramer reported that the organization has fielded interest in the righthanded starter, who has a no-trade clause through the 2025 season. Castillo is a valuable member of the Mariners organization, but their wealth of young talent provides the opportunity to move the veteran.
Castillo had a down year this past season by his standards, yet still posted a 3.64 ERA and a 1.169 WHIP across 30 starts. The 32-year-old pitcher is owed $73 million over the next three years and could waive his no-trade clause for the right destination.
Starting pitching options in free agency are dwindling, leaving Castillo as one of the top available candidates for teams needing help in their rotation. The Mariners have been actively searching for infield bats and plenty of teams can provide that.
Here are five organizations that could acquire the three-time All-Star.
