Mike Woodson stepping down: 5 Indiana head coach candidates
Ben McCollum
Indiana might pursue some big names in its coaching search, but the Hoosiers could also look at mid-major coaches with strong resumes like McCollum. The 43-year-old is an up-and-coming coach who has spent most of his time at the Division II level. McCollum was hired as head coach at his alma mater, Northwest Missouri State, in 2009 and went an incredible 395-91 across 15 seasons, winning eight conference titles and four national championships. He was also named Division II Coach of the Year five times in a six-season span. McCollum has seen instant success in his move to the Division I level, helping Drake win 21 of its first 23 games this season. His lack of D-I experience makes him a wild card, but McCollum could be a swing-for-the-fences hire similar to what the football program did by bringing in Curt Cignetti.
