SACRAMENTO, Calif. (BVM) — The Sacramento Kings have a storied history dating back over 75 years. They originated as a Basketball Association of America (BAA) franchise known as the Rochester Royals, then joined the NBA in 1949.
In 1957, the Royals relocated to Cincinnati and remained there until 1972. The club then moved west to Kansas City and was christened the Kings. In 1985, they started anew in Sacramento where they have been based ever since.
