Hanover Elite Cheer: Building champions and community
HANOVER, Pa. — In just a few short years, Hanover Elite Cheer (HEC) has flipped, jumped, and stunted its way to the top of the competitive cheerleading world. Founded in 2015 by Chris Topper, this dynamic program has quickly established itself as a premier All-Star Cheerleading destination in the region.
“What is special about our program is we offer Levels 1-6, which most gyms our size do not,” explains Chris. This comprehensive range allows athletes of all abilities to find their place and progress naturally as they develop their skills, creating a continuous pathway for growth and achievement.
The program’s reputation for excellence has attracted approximately 120 dedicated athletes who travel from communities throughout the area—Hanover, Spring Grove, Dover, Chambersburg, and even across state lines from Manchester, MD. With over 200 kids coming through the doors annually, HEC has become a bustling hub of athletic development.
Under the expert coaching of dedicated professionals, HEC has created an environment where athletes grow mentally, physically, and emotionally. The entire coaching staff consists of certified members of the United States All Star Federation (USASF), bringing extensive training and experience to the sport of cheerleading.
HEC’s Level 6 team, Flex, is taking the program to new heights this season. Competing in the Limited Extra Small Senior Coed division, Flex has earned a coveted spot at The Cheerleading Worlds in Orlando this month. The achievement is even more impressive as the team secured a paid bid to this end-of-season competition while performing at Coastal at the Capitol in National Harbor, Maryland.
The success continues into the current season, with teams placing first at both the Spirit Cheer competition in Atlantic City, NJ and the Spirit of Hope event in Charlotte, NC. Outstanding performances early in the season have already secured At Large bids to the prestigious D2 Summit Championship in Orlando, Florida in May 2025. This marks the program’s sixth year attending this elite competition—achievements they’re looking to upgrade to paid bids with competitions still remaining.
While Hanover Elite doesn’t designate official team captains, their sense of unity is unmistakable. Before each competition, athletes gather in a huddle for a crucial moment of focus and connection. “The coaches give them a pep talk reminding them of the areas they need to focus on to execute their routine, and then the team members get pumped up to perform,” describes Chris.
The anticipation continues after performances, when athletes sit together in a circle during awards ceremonies, anxiously awaiting results and placements—a tradition that builds both suspense and solidarity.
New faces are always welcome at Hanover Elite. The program typically holds tryouts in May at the beginning of each competitive season, creating opportunities for aspiring cheerleaders to join their ranks. “As an organization we are always welcoming to new faces in the gym,” Chris emphasizes, highlighting the inclusive culture that has helped build their diverse and supportive community.
As Hanover Elite Cheer approaches its 10-year anniversary, the program continues to demonstrate how dedication, expert coaching, and family values create a formula for success. With their sights firmly set on bringing home championships this season, these athletes aren’t just performing routines—they’re building character, community, and a legacy of excellence that extends far beyond the competition mat.
