Danville track team setting records
DANVILLE, Ill. — As the indoor track and field season comes to a close, and preparations made for the outdoor season, several school records and near-records have already been made at Danville High School.
Sophomore D’Mario Jackson is having quite the season, breaking the indoor school record in the 60 meter dash, besting the record of current Denver Bronco wide receiver Trent Sherfield. What was it like to break the record? “It felt pretty good, an accomplishment. Trent Sherfield is a big name!”
D’Mario has since lowered that record four more times, with the record currently at 6.94 seconds. D’Mario also holds the second fastest indoor 200M in school history (22.16 sec), and several freshman and sophomore records.
D’Mario is the unofficial 3A State Champion at the Top Times Meet in Bloomington at the end of March. Look for more records later this season!
D’Mario has also played the trumpet for two years, and is a wide receiver/cornerback for the football team. He gives shout outs to Girls coach Emone Davis, a strong sprinter in her days at DHS, Coach Forrest, and God. D’Mario has a great future.
Eclipsing a school record in the indoor high jump was Keishawn Carr, setting the bar at 6’4”, breaking a record that had stood for 35 years. Matthew Sherman now sits at #3 on the Danville indoor pole vault list at 14’ 5 ¼”.

On the Girls side, Samantha Brown has the indoor pole vault record twice now, at 10’10”, after only having been a vaulter for three years. She says being a gymnast for thirteen years helped her be comfortable for the upside-down portion of the pole vault.
You can also find Samantha in the triple jump, and some relays. Only a junior, she has hopes of vaulting 12’6” by next year, and qualify for both athletic and academic scholarships.

Coach Mitch Thomas has praises for these athletes: “The kids have worked hard, they deserve these records.” Coach Tyler Arnholt added, “They come to practice and have fun, too.”
Keep an eye on the DHS Facebook page for the next home meet!
