Ranking the 10 greatest Los Angeles Angels of all time

2. Nolan Ryan, RHP (1972-79)

Nolan Ryan’s 27-year MLB career is tied for the longest of all time as he pitched for four franchises: the New York Mets, Houston Astros, Texas Rangers and Angels. Ryan has had his number retired by the latter three franchises, but was perhaps at his best early in his career in California. Ryan won 138 games with the Angels, the third-most in franchise history. His 3.07 ERA also ranks second in Angels history, while he leads the franchise in strikeouts with 2,416, part of 5,714 that he had in his career which remains a potentially uncatchable MLB record. Ryan led the MLB in punch outs in seven of his eight seasons in Los Angeles and was a five-time All-Star with the Halos who narrowly missed becoming a Cy Young Award winner on multiple occasions.
