Ranking the 10 greatest San Diego Padres of all time
10. Benito Santiago, C (1986-92)
Santiago had an impressive 20-year big league career that saw him play for 10 teams, but his greatest success came in a Padres uniform. The talented catcher was named an All-Star in four consecutive seasons from 1989-92, part of an 11-year stretch where he hit double-digit home runs in each campaign. Along with his five career All-Star appearances, Santiago was named the 1987 NL Rookie of the Year, a Silver Slugger Award winner four times, and a three-time Gold Glove Award winner, all with the Padres. Santiago, whose .264 career batting average ranks 10th in Padres history, was inducted into the franchise’s Hall of Fame in 2015 as arguably the best catcher in the team’s history.
