Westfield Shamrocks girls golf: A tradition of excellence
WESTFIELD, Ind. — We spent time with Coach Josh Bryant to learn more about the tradition, success, and future of the Westfield High School Girls Golf Program. From state champions to future stars, the Shamrocks continue to raise the bar both on and off the course. With a strong foundation and a deep sense of pride, Westfield Golf remains one of the premier programs in Indiana.
The 2025 Team Outlook
What are your expectations for this season?
Josh Bryant: This year’s team is very talented, with multiple returning players and a strong group of freshmen. Kelsey Haverluck, a returning All-State player, steps into a leadership role following Addi Kooi’s graduation. With a focus on growth, we expect to stay competitive in our conference and at the IHSAA State Tournament.
Who are key returners and newcomers to watch?
Bryant: Returning players include Kelsey Haverluck, Lilley Ku, Kate Brown, Sophie Raines, and Harper Bryant. Freshmen Laila Abriani and Farrah Camp are expected to make an immediate impact. The team’s strengths include depth, leadership, and a commitment to daily improvement.

What goals has the team set?
Bryant: We focus on maintaining a growth mindset, aiming to peak in time for the postseason in mid-September. This year, we’re emphasizing “Process over Outcome” to track progress throughout the season.
How did the team prepare in the off-season?
Bryant: Our players competed in more than 160 spring and summer events. We also held winter strength training and off-season activities focused on “Westfield Player Intangibles,” with emphasis on course management, mental toughness, and scoring inside 100 yards.
What stands out from last season, and what challenges lie ahead?
Bryant: The 2024 team won 9 invitationals and swept Conference, Sectional, and Regional titles. The challenge this season will be competing in a region filled with other state title contenders. Staying grounded in our growth mindset will help us stay focused.

How do you build team culture and sportsmanship?
Bryant: We incorporate year-round activities like a baking contest, yoga, an overnight trip to Louisville, and service projects. These experiences build bonds that go beyond the course.
What tournaments are you excited about?
Bryant: The Fall Preview, the Hall of Fame Invitational, and the Conference Tournament at Bear Slide are always highlights.
What advice do you have for aspiring golfers?
Bryant: Have fun with the game and start with Junior PGA events for a relaxed team environment. Once players are ready, explore tournaments through the Indiana Golf Association, Mizuno Tour, or US Kids. And always use properly fitted clubs—it makes learning more fun and effective.

Building the Future: Middle School Program

What values and skills are emphasized early?
