Islanders’ Barzal fined for slashing Blue Jackets’ Marchment
Mathew Barzal is losing some of his paycheque. The New York Islanders forward has been fined $5,000 for slashing Mason Marchment in Sunday’s 4-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced on Monday. It is the maximum allowable fine under the CBA. Barzal slashed Marchment’s skate in retaliation to the latter’s illegal hit on Islanders rookie Matthew Schaefer.
