Record-breaking ripples: Creekview varsity girls swim wraps up another successful season

CANTON, Ga. — A historically competitive and talented team, Creekview High School Varsity Swim wrapped up another outstanding season last month. Not only did the girls team place 2nd overall in the County Championship, but school records were broken in both the Girls 200 Medley (Willa Faulkner, Shaye McDonald, Sabrina Moran, and Connie Miller) and Girls 400 Relay (Sabrina Moran, Ella Rae Hames, Payton Reyes, and Willa Faulkner).

Freshman Willa Faulkner also set two individual school records in the 50 Free and the 100 back, as well as breaking the county record in the 100 Back and clinching the state title in the same event.

This year’s team captains were Molly Claire Barber, Ella Rae Hames, Porter Gerber, and Michah Owens. The team was led by a strong senior class of female swimmers who provided motivation and encouragement to their teammates while setting a great example of what hard work and determination can achieve. Coach Heather Morris shares, “They had a goal to leave their legacy this season and worked incredibly hard every practice and every race to get better.”

Under the leadership of Coaches Heather Morris and Daniel Pratt, the teams’ goal each season is to make personal bests, break school and county records, and to quality as many swimmers as possible to compete in the state championship. After each meet, the team recognizes an MVP, Most Spirited, and Most Dedicated swimmer with the presentation of a metal pin for their letterman jacket and recognition on the team’s social media. Coach Morris emphasizes, “It takes a special athlete to win one of these awards and our athletes are very proud to wear them when they earn them.”

The team attributes a lot of their success to the efforts of neighborhood swim teams who teach, guide, and inspire new generations of swimmers before their time at Creekview. For anyone interested in becoming a Creekview swimmer, it is encouraged to join Orange Shoals or Woodmont neighborhood swim teams this coming summer to get started.

Tryouts for the Creekview High School swim team are held in October. Follow the team’s Instagram page @creekviewswimanddive for more information.
