The MVPs of recovery: Centerville athletic trainer Brandon Craig

CENTERVILLE, Ohio — Behind every powerhouse team resides an often invisible group of athletic trainers (ATs). These dedicated men and women employ cutting-edge knowledge and techniques, to keep athletes at the top of their game.

This month South CW Neighbors continues with Part 2 of a three-part series showcasing the talents of the Centerville High School athletic trainers. At bat: Brandon Craig.

Degrees/certifications: MBA, ATC

Years in position: 8

Sports concentrations: Football, middle school football, boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball, boys’ lacrosse and girls’ lacrosse

Education/Training

  • Master’s degree
  • National board certification
  • Ohio state license (which involves passing a test)
  • CPR certification (with many ATs choosing to become CPR instructors)

Duties

  • Injury recovery and rehabilitation
  • Documentation/administrative duties (making sure all athletes have paperwork turned in, keeping coaches up to date on athletes’ recovery statuses, etc.)
  • Some preventive care
  • Lunch/school day treatments
  • Maintaining presence at all games/events, as well as most practices
