Impressive comeback isn’t quite enough as Pioneers lose doubleheader at Monmouth
MONMOUTH, Ill. – Down to its final at-bat, Grinnell College’s softball team put together a valiant comeback with three runs to force extra innings Saturday afternoon at Monmouth College. Grinnell stretched the game out three more innings before Monmouth eked out a run in the bottom of the 10th inning for a 5-4 victory in Midwest Conference play. The Pioneers, who fell to 3-7 in the MWC and 8-26 overall, outhit Monmouth by a 13-9 margin and also benefitted from a superb relief pitching performance by Meghan Harcus ’29.
